One of Germany’s largest refinery systems: BP Refining & Petrochemicals GmbH, or BPRP for short, operates the second-largest refinery system in Germany and is a major producer of petrochemical products in north-western Europe. The processing system is highly efficient and produces products of the highest quality and environmental compatibility. Since the end of 2002, only sulphur-free fuels have been produced.

The processing facilities managed by BPRP are largely consolidated in Ruhr Oel GmbH (ROG), a joint venture between Deutsche BP AG (Dt. BP) and Petroleos del Venezuela SA. As a Deutsche BP company, BPRP operates this processing system on behalf of the joint venture partners. In addition, BPRP has been commissioned by Deutsche BP to manage the operations of the Emsland oil refinery in Lingen.

Our crude oil distillation capacity is 22.8 million tonnes per year in the Ruhr Oel Verbund and 4 million tonnes at Deutsche BP subsidiary Erdöl-Raffinerie-Emsland. Together, this accounts for almost a quarter of total domestic mineral oil capacity.
The petrochemical plants, which form the core of the largest olefin plant system in Germany, have a combined production capacity of 4.6 million tonnes per year.

We supply ‘white’ mineral oil products – motor fuels, light heating oil and liquefied petroleum gas – exclusively to the Aral organisation. Aral is part of the German BP Group and is the market leader in the German petrol station and heating oil market. We sell the ‘black’ mineral oil products – heavy heating oil, bitumen, petroleum coke and calcinate – through our own efficient distribution channels. We distribute the petrochemical products ourselves to large processors.

In 2002, the BPRP employed around 3,000 people.
