Infineum is one of the world’s leading companies in the development, manufacture and marketing of additives for fuels and lubricants. The company was founded in 1999 and is a joint venture between two of the biggest names in the fuel and lubricant industry: ExxonMobil and Shell. Its customers include many well-known consumer brands.

The chemical plant in Cologne is an important part of the company and operates in two main production units. Cologne’s excellent transport network enables Infineum to distribute innovative technologies via its global supply network. One production unit is one of the world’s largest PIB (polyisobutene) production facilities. This is used as a raw material for the manufacture of an important component for lubricating oil additives.

The plant also produces additives in its MDFI (middle distillate flow improvers) facility, which improve the flow properties of middle distillates such as diesel fuel at low temperatures.
